About Lilian Vieira

Lilian Vieira (Brazil) grew up with music as a natural part of daily life. In 1989, she moved to the Netherlands, later graduating from the Rotterdam Conservatory. In 1999, Vieira collaborated with the jazz group SfeQ, featuring drummer Stefan Kruger and keyboardist Stefan Schmid. This collaboration led to the formation of a new band: Zuco 103

With the release of their debut album Outro Lado in 1999 (Crammed Discs), Zuco 103 launched an international career that has now lasted more than 25 years, including performances at major festivals such as Fuji Rock (Japan), Glastonbury (UK), and, in the Netherlands, the North Sea Jazz Festival, Lowlands, and Pinkpop.

Vieira sings primarily in Portuguese and is known for her improvisational skills and extensive repertoire of Brazilian music. She has performed as a guest vocalist with ensembles such as the Metropole Orkest, WDR Big Band, Millennium Jazz Orchestra, Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Amsterdam Funk Orchestra, and Kraak & Smaak. Her voice can also be heard on numerous albums, including The Duke by Joe Jackson. Through her work, Lilian Vieira builds bridges between traditional Brazilian music and contemporary styles.

In addition to her work with Zuco 103, she is also active as a solo singer and has even worked as an actress, appearing as Maria in the TV series ‘9 dagen van de gier’

In 2012, she formed Lilian Vieira Grupo and released her first solo album, Lilian Vieira (2013), followed by Tanta Coisa (2016) and Samba Fever (2018), all produced by Wiboud Burkens in close collaboration with Marijn van der Linden. Together with Marijn van der Linden, Wiboud Burkens, Udo Demandt, and Breno Virissimo, she completed several theater tours accompanying these releases.

Lilian Vieira also performs with various samba ensembles and is a member of the four-part vocal group Cantorias. In 2024, Vieira received an Edison Award both with Cantorias and with Zuco 103 for their recent albums.

Celebrating 25 vibrant years with Zuco 103, Lilian Vieira continues to shine on stage with a range of exciting musical projects. And the best is yet to come: a brand-new Zuco 103 album is on the horizon for 2026!
